Taking Flight
Location: Canterbury, New Zealand New Zealand is one of the best places in the world for bird lovers. Until the Europeans arrived, birds had no natural predators and flourished on the islands (and really, who wouldn't in a place as beautiful as this). This guy -- possibly a swamp harrier or a falcon -- was sitting on a fencepost near the road to Mount Sunday (Edoras) and I was lucky enough to catch him as we drove by and he took flight.
